Make Your Home Safe
Do you know how to make your home safe? Most of the time, if a thief wants to get into a home they will, but it doesn’t have to be your home.
Home intruders are usually looking for an easy home to target. This means that they aren’t looking for your home in particular. So, you can easily make your home safe and thief proof just by following a few simple steps. The harder that you home is to break into, the less likely a thief will be to target it. To begin, let’s talk about those locks and doors.
Since most doors are equipped with standard spring latch locks, a thief will be able to kick down the door and enter without any trouble. If you don’t want this to happen, remove existing locks and replace them with double dead bolt locks. These locks require a key in order for them to be unlocked, and they can only be unlocked from the inside. As important as your doors are, your windows are just as important. Windows can be easily entered thanks to those flimsy frames. In order to prevent a thief from sliding open your window, hammer a few nails into the top of the frame. Allow the nails to stick out a few inches, which will prevent a person opening it from the outside from sliding the window all the way to the top.
Another way to make your home safe is to install lots of lights. Most burglars don’t want to be seen breaking into your home, so an array of outdoor lights is a good idea. Install motion detector lights outside, and leave some lights on at night inside of your home. There is one more thing that all homeowners should think about. When you purchase some new expensive item, don’t announce the purchase to the entire neighborhood. Instead of putting the large box that advertises your new TV or computer on the side of the road, break it up into small pieces and stuff it into a garbage bag.
Those that are going away on vacation should never neglect their home’s safety while they are away. Set timers for radios and alarm clocks; have a neighbor pick up the mail; and have someone shovel the snow or cut the lawn while you are gone.
Many thieves are frightful of any light, noise, of difficult entrance. Burglars want to get in to a home; steal objects, and leave undetected – don’t make breaking into your home easy. Make your home safe by following the tips above instead.
